2020 ANNUAL MEETING: Feb 22, 2020 Seattle Yacht Club Present: Ron Knight, Derek Storm, Dan Mathews, John Ive, Bill Boyerson, Philip Hubbell, Peter Conze, Dan Newland, Will Lesh, Gary Pietka, Dan Darrow, Art Sortland, Bill Daniel, Steve Allmares. Peter Shorett, Scott Gilson, Loren Steel Last Saturday, the 2020 PNMYC Annual Meeting was held at Seattle Yacht Club. Although several interested people had conflicts, we had 19 members from as far away as Idaho, Portland, Bellingham and Port Hadlock. After reviewing last year’s minutes, they were approved without objection. The current officers were re-elected, Ron Knight Commodore Peter Conze Vice Commodore Dan Mathews Secretary/Treasurer We then reviewed the financials and confirmed we are still solvent. We discussed the creation of PNMYC as a 501©7 and the one-time $600 charge from the IRS for incorporating. We enjoyed reports from the Rose City MYC, the Quimper Peninsula fleet, a new fleet starting at Wesley Bradley Park in Puyallup, and the very successful club in Jasper, Georgia--the Big Canoe Model Yacht Club. Bill Daniels received the Commodore’s Award for his contributions to our sailing program—primarily by running, during 2019 with Dick Ramsey, about a dozen weekday practice sessions, which proved popular and valuable. The 2019 Allan Van Ness Series trophies were given to Peter Conze, Ron Knight and Dan Mathews who were 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Non-winner participants in all the regattas of 2019 were listed and Philip Hubbell, the most active, was awarded his choice of the prizes, a T37 cap and t-shirt. Recommend that you review the 2019 minutes, because they contain valuable information, including National Champion Peter Conze’s racing tips and nice condensed racing rules from Philip Hubbell. A link to them is below. The sailing schedule for 2020 was presented, with some new venues, including Meydenbauer Bay Park in Bellevue. Bradley Park in Puyallup could be a nice venue with the new group there getting underway. The dates for the bigger events are finalized: Regionals—Seattle Yacht Club (venue may change) April 18 Larry Shorrett Memorial—San Juan Island May 16 Ron Meicho Memorial—Lake Whatcom July 25 Nationals—Seattle Yacht Club October 17 After lunch, Peter Conze, the repeat National Champion, discussed his trials of different rudders (having concluded that they need medium thickness, full depth with a squared tip, and a wider top for control when slow), his innovative rigging ideas, and some starting strategies. Will Lesh then presented his new Racing Upgrade Instructions that include the Tension Sheeting System and brand new rigging adjusters involving vinyl grommets (UV resistant) over heat-shrink tubing, a rigid adjustable boom vang, and a new jib boom weight system. He now has separate kits to allow retrofit applications of these items. Call him or check his website, www.sailingisme.com. Being short of time, we were unable to show Robyn Lesh’s involvement with the development of the U.S.’s America’s Cup entry, American Magic. A link to this report is below. FROSTBITE REGATTA #7 The next Frostbite racing will be this coming Saturday, Leap Year Day the 29th, at the South Lake Union Pond. Racing should start at 10 am. Come and sail!
